The Problem
Muslim job seekers face invisible ethical minefields. A DevOps role at a food delivery company might require deploying alcohol delivery systems. A finance position might involve interest-based instruments. A marketing job might mean promoting products or causes that conflict with your values. This information exists—scattered across news articles, Glassdoor reviews, company statements, and boycott lists—but researching every application is exhausting.
The Solution
The extension does the research instantly. When you're on a job listing, click the extension. It reads the page, sends the role details to a backend that queries multiple AI models and searches the web, then returns structured findings across four categories: General Islamic Concerns, Role Duties, Ethical Impact, and Company Behavior. Every finding includes its source. The extension doesn't make decisions—it surfaces information so you can make informed choices aligned with your values.
What Was Built
A working Chrome extension with page content extraction from LinkedIn/Indeed job listings, backend API integrating multiple AI models, web search integration for real-time company research, structured output with positive and negative findings, source attribution for all claims, and a composite ethical score. Live demo showed analysis of a real DevOps position, surfacing both positives and concerns.
Technical Approach
Chrome extension extracts job listing content, sends to backend API. Backend uses AI to identify key entities (company, role, industry), then executes targeted web searches. Results are parsed, categorized, and returned with source links. Designed for minimal latency—results in seconds, not minutes.
Impact on the Ummah
This operationalizes taqwa in career decisions. Rather than compartmentalizing faith and work, Muslims can make informed choices about where their skills and time go. It's a practical tool for redirecting Muslim talent toward aligned opportunities. The tool also creates accountability—companies with poor ethical records will face an informed applicant pool.
Universal Application
Ethical job screening isn't uniquely Muslim. Vegans, environmentalists, and anyone with values-based career criteria faces the same research burden. The framework is extensible—future versions could support customizable ethical criteria, serving any community that wants to align work with values.
Long-Term Vision
Expansion to additional ethical frameworks (environmental, labor practices, diversity). Recommendation engine suggesting alternative roles at more aligned companies. Integration with job boards themselves, not just as an overlay.
What's Next
Expanding data sources, refining categorization accuracy, and exploring partnerships with ethical job boards or Muslim professional networks.
