A parking management system designed for mosques, addressing the chaos of Jumu'ah parking that strains community relations. Tracks occupancy, flags repeat offenders parking illegally in neighboring areas, and provides data to optimize volunteer deployment. Works with just phones or integrates with existing cameras.

Key Features

  • Real-time parking occupancy tracking
  • License plate scanning (manual or camera-automated)
  • Violation reporting for illegal parking
  • Repeat offender identification and tracking
  • Integration with neighboring businesses' cameras
  • Time-based rules for prayer schedules
  • Data analytics for volunteer optimization
  • Works with zero infrastructure (phones only) or camera integration

The Problem

Every Jumu'ah, the same scene plays out at mosques across Dublin—and across the world. Cars overflow the lot, spill into neighboring businesses, block residential driveways, and clog side streets. Brothers argue over spaces. Neighbors grow resentful. Local businesses threaten complaints. Some mosques have faced closure orders over parking chaos. The problem isn't just logistical—it's dawah. When Muslims are known in a neighborhood for disruption, it poisons community relations.

The Solution

Park Watch gives volunteers and administrators real-time visibility into parking status. At its simplest, it's a counter: volunteers scan plates or tap a button as cars enter, and everyone can see when capacity is reached. At scale, it integrates with cameras to automate counting and track violations. Neighboring businesses can report Muslim vehicles parked illegally on their property—instead of angry confrontations, the mosque community handles its own.

What Was Built

A complete web application with mosque registration and admin dashboard, manual vehicle counting via phone (license plate scanning or tap-to-count), camera integration for automated plate recognition, violation reporting portal for neighbors/businesses, offender tracking with timestamped evidence, time-based rules aligned with prayer schedules, and a user-facing interface for neighbors to report.

Technical Approach

Web-based application with camera integration using license plate recognition AI. Designed with two deployment tiers: zero-infrastructure (volunteers use phones) and camera-integrated (automated counting and recognition). Data stored for analytics—which areas have most violations, which times are worst, enabling proactive volunteer deployment.

Impact on the Ummah

This protects mosques from external threats (closure orders, legal action) while fulfilling our internal obligation to be good neighbors. It transforms a source of community tension into an opportunity for engagement. Instead of three brothers missing Jumu'ah to stand in a parking lot, one person with an app handles it—that's two more people in prayer.

Universal Application

Parking management isn't unique to mosques—any venue with periodic high-traffic events faces this. Churches, community centers, event spaces, and schools all deal with overflow parking straining neighbor relations.

Long-Term Vision

Integration with Google Maps to suggest alternative parking. Predictive analytics using historical data (Ramadan will be busy—schedule extra volunteers). Reservation systems for large events like Eid. Geolocation-based notifications to members when the lot is full.

What's Next

Pilot deployment at a Dublin mosque, refinement based on real-world use, and camera integration partnerships.
